Our development coordinator has taken an 8-week online grant development course, and is participating in a 7-week intensive donor development course through Habitat International. Our entire staff participated in an inclusivity/sensitivity training day.

Joined the Lower Shore Vulnerable Population Taskforce to collaborate via zoom with 200 local agencies and businesses serving low-income families; Expanded our community outreach efforts by partnering with local church, community and government organizations' outreach events; engaged supporters, local government officials, and community leaders through the Habitat for Humanity International "Cost of Home" campaign; advocating for affordable housing with local and state leaders; writing op-ed pieces for local newspapers and conducting television interviews regarding the housing crisis in the U.S.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Where other organizations might not have been able to continue to meet its programs' needs, Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County was able to adapt to the changing COVID landscape by utilizing our HabiCorps members to continue construction while volunteers were not authorized to be on our build sites. We were able to build and sell a home in four months, and fully gut and renovate another in eight (unknown issues caused for delays while we dug for a 32" deep foundation--the house was sitting on crumbling piers). We utilized some of the HabiCorps employees in the ReStore, as well, allowing us to continue operations, and expand hours. We adjusted for the loss of income from individual donations from our biggest fundraiser, Chefs for Habitat, by hosting a virtual fashion show fundraiser, and increased our grant applications. Included with these grants were rental assistance grants from the State of Maryland, administered through Wicomico County. These funds allowed us to help 100 (and counting) families avoid eviction from COVID-19 related job or wage loss.
