International Campaign for Tibet
Mission
Founded in 1988, the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) works to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet. With offices in Washington, Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels, ICT monitors and reports on human rights, environmental and socio economic conditions in Tibet; advocates for Tibetans imprisoned for their political or religious beliefs; works with governments to develop policies and programs to help Tibetans; secures humanitarian and development assistance for Tibetans; mobilizes individuals and the international community to take action on behalf of Tibetans; and promotes self-determination for the Tibetan people through negotiations between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama.
Vision
As the largest Tibet support group in the world, ICT is defined by acts of skillful compassion. For more than 35 years, ICT has served the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet. We help Tibetans in their peaceful struggle for democracy and human rights and seek to preserve Tibet’s ancient culture of wisdom. Since 1988, ICT has fought to get the international community to take action for Tibet. We’ve worked with elected leaders and citizens throughout the world to provide political and humanitarian support for Tibetans. Through these efforts, we’ve helped pass groundbreaking laws. ICT has supported the release and rehabilitation of Tibetans who were unjustly imprisoned for their political and religious beliefs. We’ve also provided programs to assist the Tibetan community. Through our monitoring and reports, we’ve told the world the truth about human rights, environmental issues and political conditions in Tibet, which the Chinese government tries to hide.
Goals
- 1.PASSING THE RESOLVE TIBET ACT | This bill in the US Congress puts pressure on Chinese leaders to resume negotiations with envoys of the Dalai Lama to peacefully resolve China’s occupation of Tibet.
- 2.PRESERVING TIBETAN CULTURE | China is taking Tibetan children from their families to attend state run boarding schools without access to their language or a connection to Tibet’s culture and history.
- 3.PROTECTING TIBETANS’ RELIGIOUS FREEDOM | We must stop the CCP from ending thousands of years of Tibetan Buddhist tradition by hijacking the institution of the Dalai Lama to try to control Tibetans.
