Providing copies of the IRS Form 990 to the governing body prior to filing is considered a best practice, as it allows for thorough review by the individuals charged with overseeing the organization. The Form 990 asks the charity to disclose whether or not it has followed this best practice.
Making loans to related parties, such as key officers, staff, or Board members, is not standard practice in the sector as it diverts the charity's funds away from its charitable mission and can lead to real and perceived conflict-of-interest problems.
The IRS requires charities to disclose on their Form 990 any loans to or from current and former officers, directors, trustees, key employees, and other "disqualified persons." Some state laws go so far as to prohibit loans to board members and officers.

We have a budget line-item for continuing education for our staff. Some staff members have participated in online courses to further their knowledge in their role, others are participating in leadership opportunities outside of the organization (as part of their job role) to expand their knowledge and increase their skills. We bring in consultants at our in-person retreat to focus on different areas of skills/communication/leadership/etc.

Through our ActionLink program (a partnership between CenterLink, LGBTQ community centers, and other LGBTQ-friendly organizations), we navigate 501(c)(3) policy and advocacy issues at local, state, and national levels. ActionLink provides support to our member network with a focus on advocacy, education, and organization.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
LGBTQ Centers are a vital part of communities, and the impact of these pandemics cannot be understated. The impact of COVID-19 on LGBTQ people has been far-reaching, as has the Monkeypox outbreak, and our network of centers has risen to the challenge. Given the critical role of LGBT community centers - a role that has been amplified since the pandemic - CenterLink has invested a majority of its efforts in ensuring we are providing adequate support resources and funds to our member networks to help meet these challenges with the support from our generous funders. We increased our focus on working with partners and funders to create more pass-through funding opportunities for our member network to assist them in their work. We also have responded to an increased demand for capacity building and education and have expanded CenterLink’s training and education programming to meet the needs of a rapidly changing nonprofit landscape. We have created the CenterLink Learning Institute and continue to develop (both internally and with outside partners) programs and strategies to increase the knowledge and infrastructure of our member centers and to position CenterLink as a model of impactful consulting and thought leadership in the LGBTQ+ community center sector.
