THRIVE received COVID-19 specific funding to deliver services and received an additional bump in revenue from our supporters through our fundraising efforts. However, the need for our services also grew tremendously and we continue to work hard to expand to meet the need.

Due to social distancing and safety measures, we switched the food pantry from a shopping model to a pre-bagged client choice model using online tools.

We remained open throughout the pandemic and continued to shift our safety protocols to mirror CDC guidelines.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
Grocery delivery and curbside pickup, coordinated through our website, are now permanent options for those we serve, even when we eventually shift back to the in-person shopping model. Our financial coaching sessions are now offered by phone, via Zoom, or in person.

Raising Awareness
THRIVE partners with 80 Peninsula churches to act as a hub for aid in our community. The organization partners with local banks to provide financial coaching, United Way to collaborate with other resource providers, and NetworkPeninsula to engage with other people and agencies in the non-profit community. THRIVE regularly raises awareness of our mission through regular social media posts, a monthly newsletter, and presentations provided in the community. In 2022 Angela York, Executive Director of THRIVE Peninsula, presented at Christopher Newport University's Social Justice Conference, alongside other community leaders, to discuss housing justice issues.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
THRIVE implemented a grocery delivery service to reach those who were sick with COVID, in quarantine, or had other transportation barriers. In early 2022, the organization began to receive a record number of requests for help across our services. As a result, we implemented an application screener through our website that would better inform applicants on their eligibility for our financial assistance program. For our food pantry, we added shifts of volunteers and added grocery store donation partnerships to increase our services. As a result, in the last year, we have increased all of our services to the community by more than 50%.
