Pandemic Response

Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.

Project Urge Inc. reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
  • Program Delivery

  • Fundraising Capacity

  • Staffing

How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

The urgent need for cleaning, professional hygiene and infant supplies spiked to record highs throughout 2020 and into 2021. One of our ministries, Mothers In Need of Others, pushed hard to supply agency case workers and ministries with products they could pass on to their clients in emergency situations. Finding and purchasing enough products to fill the skyrocketing need was a major challenge. Fortunately, with the pandemic came pandemic-related one-time funding from United Way and other local agencies, which helped pay directly for supplies that were passed on via caseworkers to area families in crisis.

How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

Mothers In Need of Others had to adjust pickup and delivery protocols to maintain COVID -compliance. That meant more physical labor and less one-on-one support for caseworkers. Volunteers were also scarce, which left the MINO director to carry the burden of labor. Another ministry, Diversity Café, met regularly online for discussion and guest presenters who focused on issues of racism, violence, health disparity, poverty, redlining, and police interaction. We were ultimately able to grow our audience and hope to continue that trend as in-person events become mixed with continued online efforts. Efforts to promote collaboration among non-profits, agencies and churches who seek to promote community development and lasting, positive local change was very challenging, as many groups continued to work in silos and struggled to keep up with COVID-related roadblocks in isolation. We joined several collaboration efforts hosted by other orgs, but most of those have become inactive in 2021.

How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

We meet almost exclusively online to conduct business, promote collaboration and help fight racism. Mothers In Need of Others continues to supply mountains of infant, personal hygiene and cleaning supplies to young families in crisis. We have also networked with other churches and civic groups to offload products we simply don't have space for, and direct caseworkers their way for specific items they need.

Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

Increased online presence, activity. More aggressive search for grant funding. More networking and partnering with churches and civic groups who can oversee dispersement of items we can't keep on hand because of space.
