We hosted a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Summit for our employees, board directors, and local community and business leaders on the skills necessary to implement and promote DEI in our organization and beyond. The summit focused on equipping attendees with the tools and knowledge needed to create an equitable environment for all individuals. United Way is suggested to be one of the most far-reaching nonprofit organizations in our community. We act as an umbrella or backbone for our nonprofit community, working to keep our finger on the pulse of needs and available resources to be able to support our overall community. We have partnerships and relationships with many individuals and organizations throughout our community. For example, we work with over 130 local workplace campaigns, which include the companies' leadership and employees. We provide funding directly to 24 local nonprofits and have working relationships with many more. We field over 1,100 information and referral phone calls each year, so we are in contact with community members in their time of need. United Way has great relationships with local government such as City of Rocky Mount, Town of Nashville and Tarboro, as well as both our county governments. We are also active supporting civic groups by providing volunteer support and community presentations.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
United Way is adept to jumping into action amidst crisis, natural disasters or any other emergency situations. In the past 18 months, a local facility sustained a devastating fire. More than 2,000 employees who worked there suddenly found themselves without a place to work. This loss placed a special hardship on all of the employees. Our United Way partnered with local nonprofit agencies and programs to ensure that donations were used to provide food assistance, financial stability (with housing, utilities, etc.), and other individual and family supports to meet the priority needs of these employees. Also, our community sustained an unexpected and devastating tornado which left a trail of destruction across our two-county region of Nash and Edgecombe Counties. United Way assisted many impacted community members with Debris & Residential Clean up Support, Supporting Financial & Basic Needs and Housing Supports-Short-term & Long-Term and House Repairs.
