Family Services convenes several internal committees to advance leadership capacity of our managers. We have a Wellness Committee and a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that is open to any employee who would like to participate. In addition, we provide professional development conference and training funds for our employees to access external learning opportunities.

Family Services is Forsyth County, NC's convener of the Pre-K Priority. The Pre-K Priority was formed in 2014 by a group of early childhood professionals to explore how to improve the quality and number of early childhood programs available in Forsyth County. Since then, we’ve grown to include an ever-expanding number of participants who share a commitment to making high-quality, affordable Pre‑K available to every four-year-old. The Pre‑K Priority is building a grassroots movement to support high-quality Pre‑K expansion.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
The primary community needs addressed by Family Services have not changed in the past 12 months, but due to COVID-19 the manner in which services are coordinated and delivered has changed. Beginning in April 2020, the agency began to transition to telehealth and remote services in the counseling program. Currently all of the therapists are providing services to clients through telehealth, working from their homes, in addition to in person services.. During April and May 2022 therapists gradually increased capacity to 85% of pre-COVID-19 level of services, averaging about 350 kept sessions a month. There are two therapists who have started meeting with clients at the Gateway office on a limited basis. During June, July and August 2021 demand for services increased over 40%. In domestic violence victim services, advocates are providing crisis intervention and support services both on-site and remotely. We have developed staff teams at Safe on Seven and are rotating staff at the Shelter to mitigate possible COVID-19 exposure. The number of victims reaching out for services through the crisis lines and Safe on Seven has started to increase. Early Mental Health will see the Forsyth County School Readiness Project expand for the 20/21 academic year. We have hired two additional mental health coaches to broaden our reach from eight (8) classrooms this past year to 14 classrooms in the coming year, at locations across Forsyth County. Our collaborative work with Early Head Start/Head Start also expands through the addition of a third mental health consultant.
