Crisis Assistance Ministry

Mission

The mission of Crisis Assistance Ministry is to provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency. Our vision is to inspire our community to justice and generosity as we provide help, hope, and understanding to people struggling with limited financial resources. Founded by local faith leaders, Crisis Assistance Ministry operates as Charlotte-Mecklenburg's basic needs safety net. Faith leaders established this one-stop-shop as a place to send residents in need of rent and utility aid, while they separately maintained the faith component of their ministries. Since 1975, services have expanded over time, but our focus remains on ensuring housing for individuals and families who are not homeless but experiencing financial instability. By filling this critical gap, services provide immediate assistance and instill hope for a brighter future for children and families who might otherwise be overlooked. Direct services are comprehensive and include financial assessments, provision of rent and utility assistance, free essential material goods such as brand-new and gently used clothing and appliances, and tailored financial coaching based on an empowerment model.
