Vision

NCBA strengthens the network of elected officials representing communities of color throughout the state and collaborates with progressive, grassroots networks on intersecting issues to works toward state-level systemic change. The Alliance is an intergovernmental network of African American legislators, county commissioners, school board members, and municipal elected officials centered by a commitment to ambitiously address broad issues of inequality and fairness.

Goals

1. 1.To bridge the gap between low-wealth communities of color who face overlapping barriers due to systemic racism and the systems of decision- and policymaking that impact their lives to address five intersecting issues that affect their well-being: healthcare access, environmental justice, political effectiveness, crime and justice, and economic empowerment.
2. 2.Model our programmatic work and priorities directly from the needs, challenges, and priorities of the BIPOC NC communities we serve. By working closely through formalized partnerships, volunteer opportunities, and community events, these relationships will help inform NCBA’s work by helping us understand and address the broad set of issues that impact the well-being of BIPOC communities.
3. 3.Programmatically, we are committed to serving the needs of BIPOC communities across North Carolina, including the full diversity of intersecting identities BIPOC people can hold. We strive to develop and support local leaders of color who authentically represent and speak for their communities.
