UWHC is leading the collective impact movement in Horry County. Over the past year, we conducted a full community needs assessment, gathering information about the highest concerns in our county. We then help public forums to develop a strategy for addressing and impacting these needs. Through our nonprofit collaborative (HC3) and working with our funded agencies, we have developed a timeline and workplan to support, fund and advocate for the four highest areas of need. We have conducted and will continue trainings and public meetings to develop collaborations and specific interventions while measuring outcomes.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
The United Way of Horry County (UWHC) is a dedicated problem solver who will impact the most critical social issues in our community. To build this vision, we took advantage of the powerful relationship between the community and the United Way as an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of our local social issues. A community needs assessment serves as the starting point to address a community’s needs and advocate for improvements. UWHC partnered with several organizations to conduct a county-wide survey and several community conversations. We took this community wisdom and paired it with secondary research and statistics. During the process to build this vision, we took advantage of a powerful relationship between the community and UWHC. We used this as an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of our local social issues by learning from the voices of people in our community whose lives we hope to impact. Those voices led us to gain priceless knowledge and helped us shape exciting new goals for our community. Achieving these goals will require a new way to invest our resources, focus our funding, and build collective impact. This is a new direction for our community fueled by the voices that matter. We will lead Horry County to a brighter future with local leadership, service providers and community members. Our written game plan outlines a long-range plan to align our collaborative efforts to position our community for effective collective impact.
