    Atlanta History Center

    Mission

Formed in 1926 as the Atlanta Historical Society, the Atlanta History Center is a unique campus that includes the Atlanta History Museum, three historic houses (the Swan House, Smith Family Farm, and Wood Family Cabin), 22 acres of historic gardens, and the Kenan Research Center, a free public archive and research facility that collects materials conveying the history and culture of Atlanta and the American south. The History Center also owns and runs the Margaret Mitchell House in Midtown. The History Center seeks to promote the values of democracy, civic participation, and inclusivity by encouraging Atlanta's diverse constituents to learn about and engage with local history. To this end, the History Center uses its buildings, gardens, and collections to bring history to life for visitors year round, with the aid of exhibitions, museum theater performances, author lectures, toddler programs, homeschool days, school tours, summer camps, and family festivals.
