COVID-19 caused significant impact in that our fundraising events were cancelled for the remainder of 2020


How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

Home of Hope at GCS NEVER closed its doors to children and families in need. We just changed the way we operated. We implemented safety in all program areas in accordance with the CDC. We quarantined all incoming guests separate from long standing guests, required and provided masks and handing sanitizing stations throughout campus and we educated everyone on safety during a global pandemic.


How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

We adapted to changing conditions by staying connected with Gwinnett Health Department and Community Leadership (Dr. Audrey Arona) to be sure we implemented the most updated policies, practices and procedures around Covid-19 and the changing environment.


Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

Hand sanitizing stations (stand alone machines). We also will incentivize our incoming guests to learn about and get vaccinated.

Home of Hope at GCS is a community partner with several organizations. Our CEO/ED is responsible for community collaboration, networking and collaborative efforts. We are partners with Gwinnett Coalition, HomeFirst Gwinnett, Rainbow Village, Safe Place and Positive Impact. Each organization is a resource to use and us to them. We regularly meet via Zoom through Gwinnett Coalition and DCA for homeless service providers. Our social media platforms are a HUGE asset raising awareness for those we serve and to reach those in need.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


Home of Hope at GCS NEVER closed its doors. That's most important for you to know as so many other places did. We continued to operate 24/7. We had 5 of our team take the "shelter in place" for 2 weeks so the rest of us picked up the slack and we kept the kitchen/cafeteria open, cleaned daily, ionized hallways and doorknobs everyday. We used House #1 for incoming families only, where they stayed for the 14 days before joining other guests in main building or house #2. Safety remained first and foremost. We provided everything one needed here on campus during the shutdown. Each living area, Falcon's Nest, Eagle's Nest, House #1 and #2 were kept separate from one another and we used our 58 camera system to have minimal points of contact while meeting everyone's needs during this difficult time. Our kids were kept safe and happy. We provided lots of games, arts and crafts and movies for our families to enjoy while the world figured our what was coming next.
