On May 15, 2018, the IRS automatically revoked the federal tax exemption status of New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network for "failure to file a Form 990-series return or notice for three consecutive years." On April 2, 2019, The Times-Picayune reported on the operations of New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network a charity that has recently experienced a material diversion of assets, in an article titled, "Ex-leader of tourism nonprofit pleads guilty to theft, ordered to pay back more than $70K."
