Mission

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay was established in 1912 and is dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort to companion animals in need. Our core programs include shelter and adoption of homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and pockets pets, providing affordable veterinary care and sterilization for owned pets in our community, Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return (TNVR) of free roaming cats, providing safety net programs to keep pets in their homes and providing numerous community outreach programs and services. Some of our safety net programs include: Animeals, Pet Food Assistance, low-cost vaccinations, and the Save-A-Pet Medical Fund. These programs are all designed to help keep pets in their homes and out of shelters. In 2014, our Animal Hospital received accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the gold standard of veterinary medicine. We were the first non-profit hospital in Florida to receive this recognition, and we recently received this certification again.

Goals

1.Expand animal hospital to meet greater community needs. In 2024, 42,629 animals were treated, and we are adding a 2nd floor to our animal hospital so that we can treat almost 20% more pets next year and accomplish this goal. This will ensure that 8,000 more families can keep their pets and receive affordable veterinary care.
2.Decrease the length of stay in shelters for bully breed dogs and reduce the number of bully breed dogs in shelters. Bully breed dogs make up a large number of shelter intakes and we have launched a campaign to increase bully breed adoptions and spay/neuter surgeries. We work with the Dolly's Dream Program to provide free sterilization for bully breed dogs and also highlight them on social media.
3.Increase our visibility in the community by increasing our marketing, outreach, and community engagement. We also want to increase the number of humane education program participants by 5% each year. In 2024, we increased the number of children served by humane education programs by 11%, serving more than 600 additional children.
