Mission

The United Way of South Sarasota County, Inc. (UWSSC) (the Organization") is a local, independent, not-for-profit organization formed under Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c) (3) located in Venice, Florida. The United Way has adopted a Modern United Way Model, transitioning away from being a passthrough-only organization to a model that also embraces providing direct services to those in need in Sarasota County - including Venice, North Port, Nokomis, Laurel, Englewood, Osprey, and Sarasota, Florida. Contributions support local direct services and programs including Disaster Recovery & Resilience, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), General/Emergency Assistance, and Legal Aid including the S.H.E.I.L.D. program - and financial support for nine trusted local partner agencies. UWSSC is recognized by FEMA and the State of Florida as the lead agency for Sarasota County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) and the Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) in times of disaster.
