We created Hope Villages of America (HVA) University, a series of trainings provided to staff to assist in professional development. Courses range from Personal Finance, to Risk Management, to Performance Evaluation, and everything in between. We utilize staff, Board Members, and community partners to facilitate the trainings. We also offer trainings specifically geared towards supervisors, to enhance their supervisory skills.

Part of our vision statement says that we are a partner agency working alongside government, local businesses, and other nonprofits. We also have goals within our strategic plan that address this, including developing additional partnerships within the surrounding counties. Our strategic plan also includes goals like hosting 130 speaking engagements, engaging digital media, TV, radio, and social media to share our message, while diversifying outlets.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
With the onset of the global pandemic in 2020, we had to make some major changes to service delivery, but we were ready to pivot within days. We had previously ensured that all staff that utilized a computer was equipped with a laptop so that they could work remotely. We ensured that our phone system was able to simultaneously ring staff cell phones. These changes made transitioning to remote work seamless. Many guests did not even realize we had made the change.
Within our food distribution division, we transitioned to a drive-thru distribution to limit the contact between guests and volunteers/staff. This change actually increased efficiency in distribution, while keeping our guest, volunteers, and staff safe.
For programs that required face-to-face interaction, we ensured that every one was equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and utilized plexiglass barriers. We increased the cleaning of our shelter to reduce the spread of germs, along with purchasing disinfecting foggers to use, cleaning our ductwork, sanitizing furniture, and more.
Overall, staff was ready, willing, and able to transition at the drop of a dime. We couldn't be more proud of our staff and volunteers!
