Mission

The mission of the Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge is to rescue, raise, rehabilitate, and release injured or orphaned Florida native species and to provide education about respecting and preserving the environment through our non-releasable permanent residents known as “educational ambassadors”.

Vision

To ensure a future where Florida’s native wildlife flourishes, free from the threat of extinction, by inspiring communities to protect and preserve the natural world.

Goals

1.Apply for three to five grants per year to support program staff. Use Little Green Light database to steward and expand individual donors. Utilize sponsorship committee to recruit more corporate partnerships. Expand program staff from five to ten FTE employees.
2.Test new marketing methods to expand audience and track results. Survey visitors on how they heard about Back to Nature to determine success of marketing efforts. Find a partner (college program or pro bono firm) to develop a professional marketing plan for Back to Nature with a focus on reaching diverse local audiences and tourists.
3.Maintain the Wildlife Walk in keeping with the guidelines of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, the USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, and best practices outlined by the Zoological Association of America’s accreditation standards. Ensure it is accessible, appealing, and welcoming to visitors.
