Founded in 1991, the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation exists to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research. Our focus is to fund research which will lead to the elimination of pediatric cancer worldwide. In addition to funding various pre-clinical projects, the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation has developed The Sunshine Project. This is an innovative collaboration of the nation's top doctors and researchers with one goal: to fast-track new treatments and increase the survival rate of children battling cancer. Since 2005, we have implemented the groundwork necessary to introduce less toxic, more targeted drugs into clinical trials. New compounds and combinations of drugs are constantly being tested through our Sunshine Lab and hold great promise for children who have not experienced positive results under the standard treatment protocol. We were able to maintain our staff with a PPP loan for half of the year. Some staff were released in the latter part of 2020. Our fundraising activities were tailored virtually but regardless of this adjustment our quarterly revenues were materially reduced on a year to year basis.

Our research programs and clinical trials were materially affected because hospitals were not admitting patients for trials and subsequently the majority of our research trials and studies were diminished due to loss of new enrollments.

1 We have implemented a "Join Us" campaign in which we unite with like minded smaller foundations to ensure their contributions can reach as many cancer patients as possible as part of our network of 30 hospitals nationwide. 2 Our Board Members are community leaders in varied areas of expertise. 3 We fund not only research costs but also publication in technical literature . 4 Results of our trials are shared among our 30 hospitals through annual Summits of doctors and investigators. 5 Our fundraising is directed to cause campaigns that bring awareness to pediatric cancer and allow donors to engage directly in efforts to fight cancer. 6 Our activities engage kids that have recovered or are currently battling cancer allowing them the opportunity to make wishes come true. Ex. One of our campaigns allowed a 6 yr old patient to participate in a flight simulator, thus meeting her wish to be a jet pilot. 7 Our Safety Net program liaises with hospitals to address patient's financial needs.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
A lot of our events were adapted to a virtual setting allowing donors to engage with the organization remotely and individually. This mode of fundraising activity will be maintained in future allowing us to expand our reach and awareness efforts to multiple states. We have developed in house systems allowing us to monitor individual / event/ location / project information that has made us more effective in our fundraising. As explained previously, our Sunshine Project which administers our CORE Research program has been structured in a way that fosters new ideas and participation from pediatric cancer doctors and investigators. We have set up 5 different Focus Groups , each led by a specialized lead investigator in each cancer area and have also implemented an "IDEAS Group" also led by a lead investigator. Each of these groups will not only consider different ideas within their group but also possible funding opportunities that may translate into more than 1 cancer area. Our investigators meet face to face on an annual basis and also hold as many virtual summits as needed to foster new ideas and trials. These Summits allow them to present the results of studies which have been funded by the SP and also gives them the appropriate venue to discuss possible new trials and studies to be funded by the organization. These ideas are all considered and the best ones are considered for funding. Also as an effort to expand the reach of our Sunshine Project we have entered into contracts with some of our network hospitals and agreed to fund "Protected Time" investment for each of our lead investigators in the Focus Groups.
