Vision

Founded in February 1998, the Portrait Society has dedicated the past 27 years to fostering the appreciation and development of fine art portraiture and figurative work. Since its inception, the Portrait Society has grown tremendously and today offers more than 25 programs and publications, all aimed at supporting artists and promoting the appreciation and continuation of representational art focused on the tradition of portraiture and figurative art.

Goals

1. 1.Showcase the latest and best work being created in the field of fine art portraiture. We contribute to cultural enrichment by increasing the broader public appreciation of representational art. We strive to deliver a social and cultural return in value through increased visibility of portrait artists and by enriching the public’s appreciation of representational art.
2. 2.Expand access to existing educational programs. We offer in person and online programs. By expanding access through increased availability and scholarships we strive to achieve a combined outcome of professional development, initiatives that inspire artistic excellence that sustain creative careers and preserve the enduring tradition of portraiture for future generations.
3. 3.Expand Public Engagement with Representational Art. The Portrait Society is developing a long-range plan that would include mentorship programs, exhibitions and public outreach initiatives. These initiatives would both enhance artistic skills but also expand the public engagement with representational art resulting in the long-term preservation of the tradition.
