Alice Lloyd College

Mission

The mission of Alice Lloyd College is to educate mountain people for positions of leadership by making education accessible to qualified mountain students regardless of their financial situation. The college provides a high-quality academic program with a strong emphasis on the liberal arts and promotes a work ethic through its self-help student work program, in which all full-time students participate. ALC fosters an atmosphere where Christian values are upheld, encouraging high personal standards and character development. The College serves the community and region through outreach programs that embrace the philosophy of mountain people helping mountain people.

We have come so far since that day, but have much more work to do to advance education in Appalachia. Over 40% of our currently enrolled student body are first-generation college students.
2.ALC is committed to educating Appalachian students at the lowest possible out-of-pocket cost. Our goal is to continue to provide a tuition-guaranteed education for students working to earn their education, who may lack financial resources. No student has ever been turned away due to an inability to pay.
