Mission: For over half a century, United Way for Jackson & George Counties (UWJGC) has led the way for community caring in Southeast Mississippi. Today, your local United Way funds 18 member agencies and programs. Additional funding opportunities for human services agencies may be available through our Community Impact program. UWJGC also provides gifts-in-kind, specialized training and consultation to a host of local public and private non-profit social service agencies.

United Way for Jacksoin & George Counties is heavily engaged in the community. We have a 40 member board that is made up of decision making leaders in our community. We recently partnered with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce & the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation for a $675,000 grant from the governors office. These were federal dollars earmarked to the governor. We are frequently asked to speak at local and zonal meetings on the Health, Education, and Financial Stability of our community. We have 18 health and human services agencies that fall under United Way for Jackson & George Counties. We also support a host of other nonprofits through grants obtained from various sources.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


The biggest adaptation to not being able to meet, we created The Living United Show. We transformed our conference room into a studio. The show is broadcast live on Facebook with various community stakeholders. We reach approximately 4,000 viewers that we typically would not have reached. We increased our Social Media presence on Twitter and Instagram as well. Also we became distribution center for Personal Protection Equipment. We were able to supply the community with masks, wipes, Lysol (when it was hard to get), etc. We began having our board meetings virtually. We shifted staff working times and to mitigate the spread of Covid-19. Food insecurities was huge at the height of the pandemic. We were able to help seniors and the working poor who experienced an unexpected emergency with food cards. We also partnered with Open Doors Homeless Coalition to decrease the number of homeless individuals and families in our community. All in person events we were able to do virtually. Finally, we were able to help our community with filing Unemployment Benefits due to the employment office being overwhelmed. (Tried to upload our Annual Report below, file too large)
