Adopt A Village in Guatemala

Mission

The mission of Adopt-a-Village in Guatemala is to create opportunities for secondary education in partnership with the Indigenous people in northwest Guatemala. We achieve this mission primarily through the management of two quality sustainable schools, early literacy programs to remote area villages, and agricultural nutrition training programs. We partner with the Guatemalan nonprofit, Fundacion Para el Desarrollo Comunal de Huetuenango, to empower the Maya of northwest Guatemala to improve their social and economic conditions through education & vocational skills.

Vision

Maya youth from more remote villages in NW Guatemala achieve a secondary education that qualifies them for gainful employment or university studies upon graduation. Empowered by education, these Maya youths are able to escape grinding generational poverty and help lift up their families.

Goals

1.Strengthen transformative secondary program to enroll and graduate up to 60 Maya students each school year.
2.Expand our bilingual early literacy program from three to four area villages to prepare for preschoolers for first grade with sufficient Spanish literacy and numeracy skills. Expand from three to four villages tutoring outreach to elementary school students to help them graduate successfully and qualify for secondary education.
3.Improve school campus facilities with a reliable fresh potable water supply and improved sanitation to enhance learning. Improve funding capacity to renew supply of educational materials to offer the best possible academic and technical education to Maya students.
