Vision

The vision that drives BEAR League is a more compassionate Tahoe where humans coexist with bears in their shared forest home, as the Washoe people once did. A Tahoe where people respect black bears as intelligent, adaptable creatures and choose understanding over fear, adjusting their behavior to live in harmony.

Goals

1. 1.One of BEAR League’s primary goals is to educate Tahoe residents and visitors about black bear behavior, reducing unfounded fears and helping people understand how human actions—such as feeding bears, whether intentional or inadvertent—impact bear behavior and safety.
2. 2.Another primary goal of BEAR League is to connect Tahoe homeowners with tools and resources to protect their homes and coexist with bears. We educate homeowners about their options and recommend trusted contractors for installing electric fencing and other protective systems.
3. 3.With the help of our dedicated volunteers across the Tahoe Basin and Truckee, one of our goals is to provide in-person support to safely evict bears from homes or crawl spaces, monitor injured bears, and offer temporary solutions like electric mats to deter bear activity.
