The Sierra Fund

Mission

The Sierra Fund mission is to restore ecosystem and community resiliency in the Sierra Nevada. We rely on the principles of science, stewardship, environmental justice, and policy advocacy to promote headwater resiliency for the environment and communities impacted by the California Gold Rush. We identify, articulate, assess and implement ways to address these lasting impacts as demonstrated in the body of work that we have developed since our founding in 2001.

Goals

1.Asses and restore forests, meadows, and rivers devastated by the 19th century Gold Rush in the Sierra Nevada headwaters of California.
2.Advance community health outcomes by preventing exposure to legacy mining contaminants found in fish and dust, reducing the impacts of wildfire smoke, and supporting Tribes in land stewardship.
3.Increase and organize public and private investment in the interest of the natural resources and communities of the headwater Sierra Nevada region to the benefit of the entire state.
