Mission

Founded in 2001, The Ocean Foundation (TOF) is a unique community foundation with a mission to improve global ocean health, climate resilience, and the blue economy. We create partnerships to connect all peoples in the communities in which we work to the informational, technical, and financial resources they need to achieve their ocean stewardship goals.

Vision

Our vision is for a regenerative ocean that supports all life on Earth.

Goals

1.Establish a global network of well-trained ocean science practitioners supported through well-designed adaptation and mitigation policies designed in partnership with TOF. This includes ensuring equity for developing nation scientists and that they have a seat and voice in co-development, implementation, and publishing from ocean science research.
2.Sequester/store carbon via nature-based solutions by restoring and conserving critical blue carbon habitats (seagrass, mangrove, and salt marsh estuaries) and implementing seaweed-based regenerative agricultural practices.
3.Develop & synthesize science for national policy and to influence the proposed UN treaty on plastic pollution under negotiation with a focus on the polymers and additives used in plastics. This will ensure that plastic is re-engineered to be Safe, Simple, and Standardized. Co-lead the End Plastic Pollution International Collaborative, to create public-private opportunities.
