Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

Mission

Our mission is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith based and other community partners.

Vision

With community support, we have served the hungry in our 11-parish service area for more than 35 years. There has been a tremendous amount of growth since the Food Bank first began operations in 1984 in the parking lot of Victoria Baptist Church. We are now housed in a 172,000 square-foot warehouse. We continue to grow and expand our programs, but our mission remains the same. We are dedicated to eliminating a tragic problem–hungry people in a world of surplus food.

Goals

1.Increasing the number of agencies that we serve and the number of partner agencies to distribute more food in our service area.
2.Expand current programs such as BackPack and Food is Medicine to serve more people, and create new programming such as CACFP and CFSP to meet the need for more children and seniors in our service area.
3.We are expanding our bulk room operations to be able to purchase more bulk products such as rice and beans and re-package for individual distribution. This helps us to save on food purchases and creates potential for us to barter with other Food Banks to diversify our products.
