New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
  • Of course, employees working remotely brought new challenges to the Foundation. Overall, we were able to fulfill most our responsibilities with little impact on programs since our main purpose and focus is the New Orleans Police Department! Police Officers can neither shelter in place nor work remotely.


How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

Donations to our organization did not decline and we would like to thank all of our donors for the continued support of the New Orleans Police Department's needs and activities!


How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

Due to the community having to shelter in place the community outreach programs with the NOPD had to be modified or eliminated to comply with the governor's stay at home orders.


How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

We improved our technology to include the ability to conduct meetings virtually.


Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

The ability to conduct in person with a virtual meeting component option since we found that some participants actually enjoyed that convenience.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.


In the last year, the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation continued the process of reimagining policing today. In doing so, the NOPJF looked with unflinching honesty the historical shortcomings of the New Orleans Police Department and the City of New Orleans to ensure a more equitable public safety future for our citizens. The Foundation continued to advance constitutional policing, performance-based training, innovative approaches to community oriented public safety strategies, and ensuring our officers have the skills and moral courage to make, and carry out, the right decision. NOPJF also supported the New Orleans Police Department with extraordinary training, equipment and supplies not provided for in the city's budget. In late 2021, during and after Hurricane Ida, the NOPJF secured supplies for exhausted police officers who worked twelve straight days of 12+ hour storm duty shifts often with no access to power, water and other living essentials. Many of those sworn to protect and to serve did so while also managing uninhabitable homes and significant personal losses. The Foundation not only helped maintain traditional public safety efforts but also fulfilled ever changing and challenging needs of the New Orleans Police Department.
