The Food Bank invested in the tuition for our Director of Development and our Agency Relations Manager to participate in year long leadership courses hosted by the local Chambers of Commerce. We also invested in sending our Director of Operations to a national Feeding America conference in Minneapolis, where she was one of the presenters. The Food Bank hired a consultant to lead our 2nd annual staff training retreat, with a focus on Leadership Development, as well as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Collaboration is central to our mission. The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is proud to be a member of Feeding America. We partner with growers, manufacturers and retailers to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste, and share it with food-insecure families. When it arrives at our facility, the food is sorted, packed and given out by our staff and a network of caring volunteers. Food is distributed to our network of over 50 nonprofit Community Partners who provide food and nutrition assistance in their local communities. The Food Bank also operates several direct distribution programs for children, families and seniors. Together, as a hunger-relief network, we provide about 6 million meals annually to our neighbors facing hunger. The Food Bank raises awareness and educates the public around the issue of hunger through marketing and community engagement. We act as advocates for the people that we serve both in our community and with our legislators.

The landscape has shifted over the past year leading us to pivot and adapt to continue to provide food to our neighbors in need. Supply chain issues continue to affect food donations, making it difficult to secure donated food. And with the end or decrease in government programs that were in place during the pandemic, many families are now struggling to make ends meet. Government programs like the Child Tax Credit, Free School Lunch for All, Utility Assistance, and Stimulus Payments have ended, while SNAP benefits have decreased to before the pandemic levels. This coupled with the rise in the cost of living has required us to adapt to meet the continued need. For example, the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana has utilized grant funding to purchase more food to supplant the decreased food donations. And we are working hard to feed our rural neighbors, who are living in food deserts, through our Mobile Pantry Program. We are continually working to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors, children and seniors have access to food through convenient locations located throughout Northeast Louisiana.
