SEG Foundation
Mission
The SEG Foundation advances geophysics today and inspires geoscientists for tomorrow through funding innovative activities and grant programs that benefit geophysicists, their professional community, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the general public. Through our work, we are committed to promoting the science of geophysics by fostering technical innovation and knowledge-sharing through initiatives such as the SEG EVOLVE program and the Sustainability Lecture Series. We support geoscientists at every stage of their careers by providing scholarships, student leadership opportunities, symposiums, field camps, travel grants, and competitions. We also expand our global humanitarian impact through Geoscientists Without Borders®, applying geophysics to address critical challenges and improve communities around the world. By upholding these commitments, the SEG Foundation strengthens the profession, empowers individuals, and harnesses geophysics to make a lasting difference in society.
Vision
A world where geophysics drives innovation, empowers individuals, and transforms communities for a sustainable and resilient future.
Goals
- 1.The SEG Foundation is committed to expanding access to our programs and services, ensuring more geoscientists, students, and communities benefit from technical innovation, professional support, and humanitarian initiatives. By growing scholarships, field camps, Geoscientists Without Borders®, and leadership programs, we empower the next generation and extend geophysics’ impact worldwide.
- 2.SEGF advocates for the advancement of geophysics by promoting its role in solving global challenges, supporting students and professionals, and expanding humanitarian efforts. Through outreach, education, and collaboration, we raise awareness of geophysics’ impact, ensuring continued investment in research, innovation, and programs like Geoscientists Without Borders® to benefit society.
- 3.The SEG EVOLVE program was developed to address the industry’s need for multidisciplinary collaboration and bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application. This mentor-guided, virtual internship provides geoscience students with hands-on experience, integrating technical, economic, and business insights in energy exploration, carbon solutions, and sustainability.
