How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

Our revenues from fundraisers declined substantially (69% drop) as did our revenues from workshops and special programs (94% drop). We also saw a 58% drop in foundation and corporate giving. We were fortunate enough to receive sufficient emergency COVID funding to ensure that our core services to homebound neighbors, grandparents raising grandchildren, and family caregivers could continue. We applied for the PPP loan and received the funding that allowed our staff to remain working at pre-pandemic levels. We never missed one day of serving our community.


How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

We began a virtual shopping program for our homebound neighbors where they would order the food that they needed from the store and a volunteer would pick up their order and deliver it without the need to physically shop for groceries. We also shifted all in-person support groups, workshops, and meetings to a virtual platform.


How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

By virtue of serving a population that is at the highest risk of contracting the virus, Duet faced many challenges. Duet worked extra hard to ensure its volunteers conducted ongoing outreach to ensure those we serve were encouraged. We conformed to all CDC and Arizona Department of Health services guidelines for COVID-19 and put into place policies for our volunteers and meeting attendees.


Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

Virtual support group offerings will remain in place even after the in-person groups have resumed. This allows for convenient attendance for family caregivers and other vulnerable individuals who are unable to leave their homes to attend. We also will continue to shop for our neighbors at an increased rate now that this service has been put into place.
