Sustainable Food Center

Mission

Sustainable Food Center (SFC) is transforming the food system in Texas through increased food access, equitable food policy, small-scale farming support, and farm to school programs. For 50 years, SFC has improved access to fresh, nutritious food for all Texans. SFC hosts cooking and nutrition classes in Austin and Lubbock, operates farmers’ markets in downtown Austin and Sunset Valley, and provides WIC nutrition support statewide. SFC also leads the statewide network Double Up Food Bucks Texas, matching SNAP benefits $1-for-$1. SFC's mission enhances the health, land, and livelihoods of Texas communities by addressing food security holistically. SFC designs innovative programs and build partnerships to ensure a sustainable food future.

Vision

We envision a just, equitable, and regenerative food system where people and the environment thrive. SFC is working toward a world where locally produced nutritious food and ingredients are the norm. We envision a food system where people know the farmers who produce their food and where the majority of local food is grown and raised in our own communities. At the heart of SFC’s Strategic Vision is a circular economy that supports people and the environment through a just and equitable system of production, distribution, and consumption.
