Bat Conservation International

Mission

Founded in 1982, Bat Conservation International (BCI) is a global conservation organization headquartered in Austin, Texas and dedicated to ending bat extinctions worldwide. BCI works to conserve caves, restore critical habitats in danger, and ensure the survival of the world's bat species. With more than 1,400 species, bats make up 20% of the world's mammal species. Globally, bats provide vital ecosystem services by consuming pests, pollinating plants, and dispersing seeds. Yet hundreds of species are threatened with extinction from widespread habitat destruction, disease such as the devastating White-nose Syndrome, and accelerating climate change. Together, we can save the most imperiled species for bats, people, and our planet.

1.ENDANGERED SPECIES INTERVENTIONS More than 200 bat species around the world are threatened. We’ve outlined key operations to safeguard several highly endangered bat species.
2.PROTECT AND RESTORE LANDSCAPES Loss of habitat is one of the biggest threats to bats worldwide. We work on restoring habitat in critical areas, protecting important bat colonies, and abating threats.
3.RESEARCH AND SCALABLE SOLUTIONS Scalable solutions to bat threats require innovative research and global capacity. We focus on improving knowledge of bat populations to inform conservation actions.
