Cancer Care Services has a strong presence on all Social Media. In fact, we recently went live with a new website, and we are receiving many more referrals through that avenue. We also have an Outreach and Health Equity team that has made more than 75 partnerships within Tarrant County and beyond to assist us in reaching more vulnerable and marginalized populations.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
COVID has had a deadly impact on cancer. Studies show an 80-90% decline in cancer screening, and therefore diagnoses, for 3 of the most common cancers in 2020 (this screening deficit impacted approximately 9.4 million Americans in 2020 alone). “The true incidence of these cancers did not drop. The decline clearly represents a delay in making the diagnoses, and delays matter with cancer,” said Dr. Craig Bunnell, Chief Medical Officer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. “The delay in diagnosis will likely lead to presentation at more advanced stages and poorer clinical outcomes.” In other words, cancer deaths are predicted to rise over the next decade.
The trend of patients being diagnosed with cancer at later stages has already been experienced at Cancer Care. In 2021, 63% of the cancer patients we served already had Stage 3 or 4 cancer when they were diagnosed (27% = Stage 3 & 36% = Stage 4). Consequently, these patients, and their loved ones, face much greater challenges due to their intense physical and emotional vulnerability.
We dispersed $81,000+ in COVID Emergency Funds in 2020, and distributed $266,785 in direct financial assistance in 2021 for impoverished clients–including COVID Emergency Funds. Sadly, pandemic-related trauma persists in 2022, so these emergency funds remain available, in addition to our standard financial assistance programs.
