Goal One: Increase measurable quality of our after-school programs through rigorous formative evaluation.

Goal Two: Establish a pay structure that attracts qualified staff and allows us to meet the community need for safe, high-quality after-school programs for low/moderate income working families.

Goal Three: Respond to the needs of school districts for social emotional training, program quality monitoring, and after-school support services.

Clayton has paid and supported numerous staff in earning trainer certifications, mastering evaluation techniques, and learning the fundamentals of social emotional learning. These include Trust-Based Relational Intervention® trainer certification, CPR training certification, Tribes Learning Communities National Trainer, Devereaux Student Strengths Assessment administration, and the Weikert Program Quality Assessment tools. All Clayton program staff receive more than 40 hours of classroom training in child development, social emotional learning and positive behavioral interventions. Tenured staff are provided opportunities for professional development, coaching, and tuition assistance.

When schools closed abruptly in March 2020, Clayton's after-school programs also closed. To remain connected to the families we serve and help them access resources, our program development team created a series of 36 activity kits that focused on maintaining the physical, mental, and emotional health of our students in the most under-resourced neighborhoods we serve. This included weekly in-person, socially distanced activity kit distribution that allowed us to check in on the health & safety of our students and help families access needed resources. Kits included all the supplies needed for various activities built around a theme, an inspiring age-appropriate book, and QR codes that helped students access video lessons and live interactive group activities to ease feelings of isolation. Almost 30,000 of these kits were distributed over the summer and fall. Some schools are choosing to use adapted kits for supplementing at home learning for homebound children during the school year. We are currently exploring how to make this resource available to other providers to supplement their after-school enrichment programs.
