We invest in the power of human rights activism to advance justice, dignity, and fundamental freedoms around the world.

Goals

1. 1.As operating space for independent civil society has narrowed or closed in the past 20 years, FGHR will continue to increase its ability to deliver funds in some of the most challenging contexts, often where other grantmakers are unable to operate or unwilling to accept the risks involved.
2. 2.Over time, FGHR has largely moved beyond supporting organizations that work on behalf of others to those that advocate on their own behalf. Looking ahead, we will formally prioritize support for groups and movements that are led by those most affected by rights abuses, or groups centering analysis grounded in the lived experiences of the most marginalized.
3. 3.Because we seek to enable long-term, durable structural change, FGHR will look beyond isolated policy campaigns and will support groups addressing root causes rather than symptoms. Over the years ahead, we will prioritize cross-cutting efforts that seek to challenge interlocking systems of oppression, such as patriarchy, capitalism, racism, and militarization.
