Center for Transportation & Commerce

Mission

• The Galveston Railroad Museum is dedicated to the restoration, observation, and re-use of its historic facilities and equipment for the development of educational and interactive programs, which support railroading and transportation initiatives serving our regional community.

Vision

To continue to improve and expand educational programming and outreach to scholars, students and interested people of all ages.

Goals

1.We have developed lesson plans and tours focused on railroad technology and advances through history for students from grade school through high school and recently added sensory tours for autistic individuals. More than 2000 students visited in 2024 and the goal is to continue the momentum by offering teacher workshops and curriculum guides online.
2.A series of educational workshops for staff development are being developed to ensure support for the organization's growth. In addition, membership development includes volunteer opportunities to support staff efforts.
