Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics Inc.
Mission
FASPE’s mission is to promote ethical leadership and responsibility among professionals – those with the authority to impact all segments of society.
Vision
FASPE was founded in response to two distinct yet interrelated societal forces. The first was a growing concern over the rampant breakdown of ethical values in several of our most important and respected professions. The second was the challenge of memorialization and education as the Holocaust becomes more distant over time. How are the Holocaust and its ramifications to be taught and contemplated today, in the 21st century? It is FASPE’s challenge to draw contemporary meaning and currency from the increasingly distant Nazi period through the study of the ethical breakdown of the professions in Nazi Germany and what can be learned from this regarding the ethical responsibilities of professionals in our day. A pilot program with FASPE Law and Medical Fellows was launched in Germany and Poland in the summer of 2009. The Clergy program was added in 2010, followed by the Journalism program in 2011, a program for Business fellows in 2015, and the Design and Technology program in 2021.
Goals
- 1.To attract fellowship applicants with the potential to influence their fields—those at a formative career stage who are open-minded, self-reflective, and demonstrate leadership. We value diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and political perspectives.
- 2.To expand the senior management team to include a Chief Development Officer and a Director of Ethical Leadership Training, two key positions to grow philanthropic and earned revenue, and raise additional income to continuously invest in curriculum development, top notch faculty, and remain a strong voice in the public discourse around contemporary ethical issues.
- 3.To maintain a sustained, mutually beneficial relationship with alumni beyond the fellowship program, by fostering lasting connections, facilitating continuous learning, reinforcing ethical reflection, and creating avenues for alumni to assume leadership roles in the governance and advancement of FASPE.
