Vision

Initiate Justice unites the insights of tens of thousands of people inside California prisons and hundreds of impacted community members throughout California to build power, transform our criminal justice system, and move our society towards an abolitionist future. Incarceration devastates the lives of people currently incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and the families and communities that they come from; including massive and generational financial, emotional, and physical costs. We envision a California with healthy and economically empowered communities free from mass criminalization and mass incarceration.

Goals

1. 1.In order to combat harmful narratives across the state and continue to advance transformative change, it is always our goal to empower impacted people and their leadership, by growing and expanding our Institute of Impacted Leaders and Inside Organizing programs.
2. 2.We are currently prioritizing (1) leadership development, (2) employee engagement, wellness and internal culture building, and (3) cultivating our donor base as key goals to increasing our capacity and sustainability.
3. 3.We will continuously strive to move California toward a truly inclusive democracy by (1) increasing voter participation and civic engagement among justice-impacted communities across the state and (2) advocating for the restoration of voting rights for people currently incarcerated in California’s prisons.
