Walton Foundation: Funds were used to build the capacity of a cohort of schools led by diverse leaders to increase the quality of education to create better outcomes and opportunities for Black children in New Orleans. Our BE NOLA Collective was formed and included 5 schools. After administering the Beginning of Year School Quality Review (SQR), we began providing capacity-building support based on our five essential conditions for effective schools. Our schools received coaching and wrap-around support from diverse institutions and service providers throughout the school year toward the goal of strengthening academic and operational quality. We also convened quarterly gatherings of diverse educators across the city to provide a regular to foster collaboration and resource sharing among disconnected groups of educators. (Less)
