Adaptability Practices
30 out of 30 points
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year
Like many nonprofit organizations, complications surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic were incredibly difficult to manage. The ability for Save The Snakes to conduct our programs slowed and revenue streams dwindled. Our ability to adapt was crucial to continue our ability to fulfill our mission to protect snakes and mitigate human-snake conflict. As a young organization (Founded in 2017; now 2021), we currently have no paid staff, but rely on a network of volunteers around the world to conduct our efforts. This allowed our organization to stretch our funding to where it was needed most or programs were temporarily halted when appropriate. When their was a period of inactivity, our leadership strategized to strengthen our organization's goals. A transition into developing our programs online via our website, meeting software and social media was essential to continue to spread awareness of our cause. Save The Snakes partnered with other organizations to determine the impact of the pandemic on communities imperiled by snakebite. This information was critical, because when programs were able to be conducted again, we could prioritize our efforts to areas where it was needed most. In California, South Africa and Zambia, Save The Snakes partnered with other organizations to open educational resource centers from which to conduct our programs at the local level. Due to our organization's small size, dedicated team of volunteers, and despite a pandemic, Save The Snakes was able to grow our organization, our global network and the outcome of our programs.
