    Vision Statement
    10 out of 10 points
The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking through articulating the organization's vision.
Xanadu Animal Sanctuary is currently home to hundreds of free roaming wildlife critters and 25+ rescued farm animals and dogs & cats. Today, more than ever, animals are exploited and treated inhumanly for no real reason other than sheer greed. Animals serve us – as labor, as food, as clothing. The least we can do is serve them and provide them with a good life in return; not the factory farming conditions so many of them are exposed to. Our mission is to provide sanctuary to these exploited animals. Xanadu is a safe haven for abused, neglected, undernourished or injured farm animals; and in addition, we are working towards credentialing for wildlife rehabilitation to open a future rehab unit to serve even more. We cannot change how their journey began or the suffering they endured, but we can teach them to trust again and offer them a safe place and all the time in the world to heal. It is our honor to serve them, and serve our mission—saving them all, one at a time.
    Strategic Goals
    20 out of 20 points
The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.
Goal One: Expand rescue facilities to allow more room to save more animals! Fence expansion is a basic requirement as well to allow more pasture for current and future residents.
Goal Two: Expand social media presence by utilizing all current streams of communicating. This allows us to share history, current rescue events, education to public more efficiently.
Goal Three: Extend our volunteer program, and when fiscally responsible, hire employees as needed for animal care. Through people who want to be a part of our mission, we are capable of doing so much more!

    Adaptability Practices
    30 out of 30 points
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year
During Covid, and now in the post-Covid economic downturn, Xanadu Animal Sanctuary had to make serious decisions in order to protect this young organization, its financial stability, and more specifically, the animals in our care. Through June 2022, for example, our revenue is down 52% from prior year--a truly significant blow for a young growing organization that was increasing revenue, on average, at 107% year over year since inception. In order to adapt to this huge financial strain, multiple steps were taken. 1) Just as Covid hit, but prior to the drop in revenue, we placed financial restrictions on any capital spending as well as any additional miscellaneous regular expenses. We were looking to hire a regular contractor for 10-12 hours as week to help with ongoing maintenance issues, but halted that search as well to protect current assets through an unknown situation like Covid. 2) The process of brining in new rescues was minimized. While we still continued to bring in a few new rescues over the last year, we had to reduce what was originally planned in order to ensure we had the resources to care for the animals already in our care. We have seen many sanctuaries having to close their doors and rehome their rescues due to financial instability, and we are determined to maintain the business of the sanctuary in order to feed and care for the animals as the absolute top priority above all others. 3) Our BOD has stepped up to personally fund some of the regular expenses of the Sanctuary to mediate the drop in revenue that is out of our control at this time. We will continue to monitor the economic situation, re-assess our fundraising tools, and continue to adapt as needed.
