Same As U Inc.
Mission
Same As U provides a college-like setting for adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities to experience meaningful activities & programming that often stops for this populations upon leaving the school system. Same As U opened in January of 2020 with 8 adults. Even with Covid hitting 9 weeks later, by the end of the following year, 50 adults with disabilities called Same As U their college. In the Fall of 2021, a Generosity Campaign began to raise money for a permanent campus. By the end of 2022, that building had been purchased, renovated, and equipped with funding from the campaign. In January of 2023, Same As U welcomed the now 60 students to their new campus and now in March of 2025, the student roster has exceded 100 students.
Vision
Same As U envisions a world where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities experience a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Their lives may be very different than those of their peers without disabilities, yet they have the same wants and desires. Same As U is committed to providing a rich environment where students can continue learning and developing friendships.
Goals
- 1.The Generosity Campaign focused on the needed improvements inside of the building. The focus is now on improving the grounds. Installing a pavilion is needed to create a fun & inviting outdoor space for students to be together as they build relationships. Outside classes can be held under the pavilion to expand programming as well as provide shelter from the sun during recreational activities.
- 2.As part of the masterplan designed last year, an expanded parking lot was included to help accomodate the growing roster of students as well as accomodate various events help at the buidling. Currently, the car pick up line is wrapping around the lot and getting closer to the main road. Holding events for families is difficult as there is simply not enough parking spaces to accomodate the need.
- 3.To ensure the long-term sustainability & effectiveness of programs, we will invest in expanding capacity. This includes: Enhancing Staff Development with ongoing training & professional development; Strengthen board governance, recruit key leadership roles, & foster a culture of accountability & innovation; Improving Community Engagement.
