Mercy's Gate began 40 years ago as a food pantry called Northern Churches Care. As we've seen the city's boundaries change and needs of our community grow, we've grown too and expanded our services. For people in crisis, we offer relief, the hope of the Gospel, and a vision for restoration. In El Paso County, poverty is hidden in plain sight. One out of three residents work hard but still struggle to survive. A seemingly minor setback can become a crisis for many individuals and families living paycheck to paycheck. We work with our neighbors one-on-one to learn more about their situation, offer our direct services (including housing and utility assistance, food pantry, medical, clothing and gas vouchers), and connect them to other resources. Our efforts create a much-needed safety net, giving hardworking individuals and families a place to turn in challenging times. We believe "community" is what happens when we take care of each other. Last year, our executive director spent a week at the Center for Creative Leadership participating in a "Leading for Organizational Impact" training course. What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
We work closely with over 40 churches in our community to achieve shared goals. We are part of a monthly roundtable with other like nonprofits that serve the poor in our community. We are a long-time partner and drop off location in a citywide back to school event that provides much needed school supplies to those in need across our community.

Mercy's Gate is known as a resource for urgent housing and utilities assistance for families and individuals in crisis within El Paso County, Colorado. When the El Paso County Board of Commissioners was granted a large block of federal funds as a result of the Covid crises, they in turn asked us to help administer the largest grant we have ever received. We created effective processes to administer these funds and fully allocated the funds within 7 months of receiving the grant. Following a clean review by the county, we were asked to administer an additional tranche, and have successfully administered it as well. Residents within El Paso County received housing assistance in excess of $400 thousand because of these coordinated efforts to serve our community.
