Ocean Bay Community Developement Corporation
Mission
Ocean Bay Community Development Corporation (OBCDC) is dedicated to transforming the socio-economic landscape of the Rockaways by promoting a healthier, safer, and more prosperous community. Our mission is to empower residents by providing vital services that promote well-being and support sustainable growth. Since our founding in 1999, we have evolved from a referral-based organization into a comprehensive “wrap-around” social services provider. OBCDC offers a wide range of programs tailored to meet the needs of all residents, including youth, families, and older adults. These services include case management, housing assistance, workforce development through skill-building, job training, and placement, as well as community engagement initiatives like voter registration drives, transportation assistance, and a women’s empowerment group. Additionally, our services are offered at no cost to the community through multiple off-site locations, including the Family Enrichment Center and the Older Adult Center. Our Family Enrichment Center provides a safe and welcoming space for the community, offering various essential services and resources. These include recreational programming for youth, a bi-weekly food pantry to address food insecurity, and an in-house boutique providing clothing for individuals in need. Our Older Adult Center offers a variety of programs designed to enhance the well-being of seniors in the community. These include recreational activities, wellness and exercise classes, group trips, and monthly birthday celebrations. In addition, we provide free daily breakfast, lunch, and take-home meals to ensure our seniors have access to nutritious food. At OBCDC, we turn today's dreams into tomorrow's realities by providing the support, resources, and opportunities that help residents shape their futures and thrive.
Vision
OBCDC envisions a thriving, empowered community where individuals and families have equitable access to housing, education, workforce opportunities, and essential resources. Through innovative programs and strong partnerships, we aspire to break barriers in a historically underserved community, foster economic stability, and enhance overall well-being, creating a future where every resident can achieve self-sufficiency and success.
Goals
- 1.OBCDC aims to expand access to housing support, workforce development, health and wellness, and educational services for underserved communities. We strive to scale our programs by strengthening partnerships, increasing community outreach, and enhancing service delivery. By growing our impact, we break barriers and foster economic stability to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
- 2.We aim to enhance youth programming through our afterschool program, expand workforce development with more vocational and technical training, and strengthen financial stability through increased credit and housing assistance. By adapting to community needs, we empower individuals and families to achieve long-term success.
- 3.We hope to invest in organizational capacity by developing and building an office space on an existing lot, creating a centralized hub for all programs. The new space will enhance service delivery, streamline operations, and expand access to housing support, workforce development, youth programming, and wellness services.
