Mission

The Friends hosted a public presentation at the site of the conservation area announcing the formation of the Friends, describing the history of the conservation area, its boundaries, and encouraging membership. The Friends placed permanent visible markers in the ground defining the boundary of the conservation property. The Friends established a visible presence in downtown Belfast, Maine at The Commons. Current activities include: ongoing public education by volunteer members of the Conservation Area about the environmental and ecological importance of intertidal zones in general; continuing public education about how to use and at the same time protect this fragile but ecologically important area; use of The Commons as a focal point where the public is invited to come for educational materials and discussions.
