The Reader Institute for Community Journalism creates and curates political and cultural coverage by and for Chicagoans, including highlighting underrepresented communities and stories. As a social enterprise, we reinvest all of our profits to achieve sustainability, grow our reach, and ensure the fulfillment of our mission.

1.Reconceptualize/rebuild online platforms to increase individual giving and web traffic and to grow the listserv in 2024.
2.Increase capacity for racial justice reporting and community-based journalism by continuing to develop the Racial Justice Reporting Hub and Racial Justice Writers’ Room.
3.Share best practices: Develop and disseminate information about how the Reader’s community-based arts-and-culture coverage supports local arts and impacts critical outcomes for our diverse democracy.
