Ratings are calculated from one or more beacon scores. Currently, we require either an Accountability & Finance beacon or an Impact & Results beacon to be eligible for a Charity Navigator rating. Note: The absence of a rating does not indicate a positive or negative assessment; it only indicates that we have not yet evaluated this organization.
See rating report below to learn why this organization is not currently eligible.
We recognize that not all metrics and beacons equally predict a charity’s success. The percentage each beacon contributes to the organization’s overall rating depends on the number of beacons an organization has earned.
Use the tool below to select different beacons to see how the weighting shifts when only one, two, or three beacons are earned.
Rating histories are available for a growing number of rated organizations. Check back later to see if this organization has a rating history!
Piggins and Banks cannot currently be evaluated by our Accountability & Finance methodology due to only having one year of electronically-filed IRS Form 990 data. But please note, that the IRS is significantly delayed in processing nonprofit's annual tax filings. That may mean that this entity has electronically filed additional Forms 990 but they have yet to be processed and made public by the IRS.
To ensure year-to-year consistency the Encompass Rating System's Finance & Accountability beacon analyzes the three-year average of some data provided through the IRS 990.
Charity Navigator currently only has one year of consecutive e-filed Forms 990 from the IRS for Piggins and Banks under the EIN: 85-3069812.
Before Charity Navigator can evaluate Piggins and Banks, Piggins and Banks will need to e-file for additional fiscal years.

This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them, and doing this pauses our revision of their rating. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Piggins and Banks reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
Program Delivery
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
Donations were not affected by COVID as we have a strong online presence and following showcasing our rescued pigs and animals.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
With tours of our sanctuary being given outside, they were able to continue during COVID. However we were unable to provide restroom facilities (which was communicated ahead of time to tour attendees).
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
Our organization began during the first year of COVID (2020) so we were just starting out as the world was learning to grapple with the pandemic, so no changes were needed to our organization.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
Our organization began during the first year of COVID, so many of the programs we put in place to educate people virtually about our pigs and animals (video series, online sponsorship program) will continue and remain in place!

Piggins and Banks partners with other nonprofit animal sanctuaries / rescues to ensure as many pigs (and other animals) are given proper homes for a quality life. This includes networking on social media, touring of each other's facilities, exchanging fundraising ideas, and more.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
While originally planning to only rescue and provide a forever home to mini pigs (pigs under 400 lbs), we became aware of two farm hogs that needed rescuing. Each of these hogs will grow to roughly 800lbs in size. We mobilized our fundraising efforts to obtain monies to construct a large fencing / shelter area that can properly house two farm-sized pigs.
