Program Delivery
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
We applied for and received a PPP loan that allowed us to keep our staff fully employed. Our employees are also able to work virtually from home for the most part, so only our Business Manager has been in the office every workday during the pandemic. Our Federal grants have reduced due to the pandemic, but we have been able to offset that with private donations in the short-term.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
Due to social distancing, our 2020 Annual Conference in partnership with UADVT was conducted fully online. Attendees were able to attend and interact in breakout sessions via internet conferencing software. Our 2021 Annual Conference in partnership with UADVT was a hybrid conference with both virtual and in-person attendance. In-person attendees were asked to mask and socially distance. Virtual attendees were able to attend and interact using the same internet conferencing software. Our Core Advocacy Trainings (CATs) and other training sessions have been conducted virtually since March 2020. We have created YouTube DV 101 and 102 videos, and we have been creating a virtual CATs training session that one can take at their own pace but will still offer accreditation online.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
We shifted resources from travel expenses to internet interactivity software and website development. As mentioned above, we are working on offering a virtual CATs training program on our website with certification in the near future.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
The virtual trainings have worked well to provide trainings in more rural areas of Utah. Our budget limits our ability to pay trainers to travel in the all the areas we would like to reach and have been able to reach virtually. Offering a hybrid attendance model for our Annual Conference also makes attendance more practical for those limited by distance or other travel concerns.
