CROW COMEDY INC
Mission
Comedy Reflects Our World (The Crow) is an arts and culture nonprofit organization in Santa Monica, California. Laughter is healing, and experiencing someone else's story creates more connection between community members. We provide high-quality arts education using the art forms of comedy and storytelling. Participants learn the skills and techniques needed to engage with a live audience and learn how to share and reframe their stories while giving an impactful performance. This experience is transformative for both the performer and the audience members - the performer gains confidence and connection by sharing their story - and audience members gain new insight and perspective by experiencing another's story.
Vision
Comedy Reflects Our World (The Crow) believes laughter is healing - and that the more our society feels connected the more compassionate our society will become. We are driven to provide high-quality arts education using the art forms of comedy and storytelling. The Crow's programming inspires more connections between community members. Through our programming, our performers have the opportunity to have their voices heard on stage - and our audience benefits from and is transformed by this experience as well - they grow and learn through the experience of hearing a story told through the perspective of another. The more we understand each other as a community - the stronger and more connected we become as a society.
Goals
- 1.We aim to grow as an organization and expand upon our current educational programs. We want to host more classes to increase our reach by offering more classes and offering more scholarships for our arts programming. This will increase our community participation - and with each new participant/performer/audience member, the impact of our program will be increased as well.
- 2.In addition to our arts education classes in comedy and storytelling - we host an annual week-long comedy festival each Spring: The Bergamot Comedy Festival. This festival's goal is to amplify the voices of comics who historically have been underrepresented on comedy stages: females, female-identifying, BIPOC LGBTQ+A and comics starting their art careers later in life.
- 3.We offer educational programming for all ages, youth - and adults. Tweens and Teenagers, especially those who are from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, have culturally relevant needs. This population is drawn to spaces where they can feel fully heard. We offer tailored programs for these age groups with our art classes focused on confidence-building and public speaking tasks.
