Traveling Nunk
Mission
Sangha House NOLA, home of Traveling Nunk, is a Buddhist temple and sanctuary dedicated to spiritual refuge, the well-being of our monastics, and compassionate community service. We offer culturally relevant mindfulness programs, dharma study, contemplative training, meditation retreats, and cultural arts. We integrate practice into everyday life through engaged service: food relief, mutual aid, urban gardening, education, healing circles, crisis response, sanctuary refuge, and cooperative and regenerative economics. We address suffering and cultivate resilience through inner practice and outer service, operating on a gift economy model ensuring all offerings remain accessible, rooted in Buddhist wisdom.
Vision
We envision interconnected communities awakened to collective liberation, where contemplative practice and engaged action flow as one. Rooted in Buddhist wisdom and ancestral knowledge, we aspire to create beloved spaces where all beings particularly those impacted by systemic harm experience spiritual grounding, material care, resilience, and the courage to transform suffering into healing. Together, we practice toward a just and compassionate world where inner freedom and outer justice are inseparable.
Goals
- 1.Expand access to our Temple & Monastic Community program by strengthening Sangha in da Streets responsive outreach, extending weekly meditation session hours, and increasing monthly Days of Mindfulness frequency to serve more practitioners while maintaining depth and quality of contemplative practice.
- 2.Build organizational infrastructure by transitioning 3 core team members to living wage contractors, establishing outcome measurement and financial management systems, and developing institutional partnership capacity to position Sangha House for sustainable growth and mission impact.
- 3.Develop new programs responding to emerging community needs: expand healing circle offerings for intergenerational trauma and recovery, launch youth-led creativity programs, and strengthen sanctuary refuge services for people navigating housing instability and life transitions
